We also offer telehealth (telephone or Skype) consultations.

Individual counselling appointments are 90 minute sessions.

If we can’t take your call and you would like us to get back to you, please leave a message with your first name and a telephone contact number we can reach you on.

Calls are responded to within one business day.

Telephone or Skype Consultations

In certain circumstances, such as if you live in a remote area, or are temporarily interstate, it may be possible to conduct a treatment session using an internet based platform or by telephone. In these cases, normal session fees apply but your Medicare rebate may be impacted.

Referrals

You do not need a referral to receive a Clinical Psychology consultation.

However Medicare and some private health funds will require that you have been referred by a General Practitioner (via a ‘Mental Health Care Plan’) or Psychiatrist in order to be eligible to receive rebates.

Professional Fees

For individual and couples consultations, following the initial appointment, further sessions are booked in sets of three appointments.

Fees cover:

  • Your individual session time
  • Referral call
  • Any subsequent consultation Dr Doley has with referring health professionals

Treatment services do not attract GST.

Concession fees apply for Individual Consultation (when you provide documentation of proof) to:

  • Full-time students
  • Holders of a pension or health care card
  • And, by arrangement, where proof is provided of genuine extenuating circumstances.

Fees are independent of whether or not you are eligible for a Medicare rebate.

Current Fees for Individual Consultation are LOWER than the APS Recommended Fee.

Rebates

MEDICARE Medicare rebates are available to individuals for a range of mental health treatments, including up to 10 individual consultations and up to 10 group therapy sessions.

You’ll need a referral from a general practitioner, psychiatrist or paediatrician to be eligible.

Please note that Medicare will now also provide for rebates for Skype-delivered therapy services for those who live in an eligible rural area (zone 4 and above) with a valid GP Mental Health Care Plan (referral) or Psychiatrist referral.

According to the current Medicare arrangements, the provision of relationship counselling does not constitute the valid use of a Better Access item, even when a mental disorder is present in both parties, because having two clients in the same consultation does not meet the requirements under the Better Access Scheme. (Source: Australian Psychological Society guide to members following advice from Medicare; correct as at May 2018.)

INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS conducted as part of Doley Psychology Services approach to couples counselling will focus entirely on factors relevant to your own functioning.

Where an individual with relationship issues is also diagnosed with an eligible mental health disorder, a Medicare rebate may be applied to their individual sessions. In this instance, the focus of the individual psychological treatment is on the presenting mental health disorder.

JOINT SESSIONS (COUPLES) are NOT eligible for Medicare rebates. When conducted in combination with individual sessions, joint sessions will focus on bringing the insight, new awareness, skills and wisdom you gain from individual treatment to benefit the enhanced functioning of the couple.

Under the current arrangement of the Better Access initiative, treatment eligible for Medicare rebates only includes psychological services to people with a diagnosed mental disorder.

PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE – If you have private health insurance you may be able to access a rebate for psychological services through your fund.

Please check with your private health fund to confirm any rebates available to you.

Please note that Medicare will only provide a rebate for a face-to-face consultation in the office and does not issue rebates for phone or internet therapy services, or cancellation/change/fail to attend fees.
